A Bit About Bluey.
When I first got him, Bluey was very quiet. His eyes and the way he looked that made you think that he was very aggressive and unfriendly! I gave him a piece of food in my hands and he took it with so much force that he bit into my hand, so I always made sure that he ate from his bowl. He just used to lie on his bed and the only part of his body that moved was his eyes. He reminded me of Thomas the Tank Engine!
He began to settle in, he became more relaxed and friendly and began to acknowledge us by moving his head and wagging his tail, when we said, "Hello Bluey!" His illness was also getting serious, unbeknown to me, and this finally stole his chance to live a life that he would have enjoyed!
At 7 p.m. Bluey cried to go out and we went for a walk. He never liked to be outside for much longer than he had to, as he preferred to come straight back to his bed! He was always like this and his previous owner explained that he was the same when he was in kennels in Limerick. My other dog, Gemma, has a knack of finding extra food outside and Bluey noticed this, but it took him a few months to realise! He began to follow her and to eat whatever was on offer and only returned when he had eaten the lot! He would then run up to the door and cry out until I caught up and let him back in!
He was a very strong dog, very gentle and never took notice of the way that Gemma behaved towards him! Bluey was so huge that his legs would often touch Gemma's while they both laid down. She would growl but you would think that Bluey had not noticed and Gemma would eventually just get up and move away. When he heard his food bowl being prepared, Bluey would run towards it, like he was running from a burning building and I would have to keep telling him to go back, as he knew that he was only fed next to his bed. He would never listen and only ever behaved like this when he wanted to come in from outside. Apart from this, he just preferred to lay on his bed and ignore everyone else!
