BLUEY. Born: 5 OCT 2008.
Don't own a dog unless you are fully prepared! Feeding him is just not enough! Get pet insurance! They can't tell you how sick they feel and something that you think will clear up is more serious!

Pictured on 12th April. He was unable to now put any pressure on his left leg.
He passed away at just before 11 p.m. on Thursday, 12th April 2012.
He arrived just before Xmas with mild lameness and was able to walk about, plus run, quite well and it only seemed a matter of time before he would be feeling completely better! He used to just groan a little at night, something I thought had nothing to do with the pain he was going through!
During the past three weeks, he gradually began to stop using his back left leg and was hopping on his right leg. Three days ago, he began to be sick a few times during the day and this continued until he passed. Two days later, I heard him crying a little and then knew it was getting serious. I took him to the vets and I was told that the large lump on his knee may be serious and it would be best to put him down there and then! They were unable to help as I did not qualify for him to receive free treatment. If I had, they would have taken an x ray and probably would have saved his life! I had an opportunity to take him to the P.D.S.A. animal hospital, but I did not have a small amount of money, maybe 100 pounds, to go towards his treatment!
He was sick while there but I decided to take him home and to contact another charity who may help- Celia Hammond; this was for Tuesday. That night, he cried a little in pain and I knew that he would suffer too much so I took him to an out of hours vet.
I should have acted faster, had some funds put by and definitely enquired about insurance. The insurance may have been too late, but that small amount that I should have had put by and that I could have given the charity will haunt me forever!

Bluey hated the sound of cars so always wanted to come straight back in from outside. He used to dig his paws into the ground and refuse to move; he was too strong for me so he always won! I then used a harness on him and he continued to refuse to walk so I used to fasten his lead to a pole and stand near by and watch the other two dogs, who would try to get lost! The harness was very secure but Bluey was able to walk backwards and forwards and to get loose from it! I caught him a few times and found that it was very tight to put his head back through it, so I still don't know how he managed to do this. He was a very clever dog!
All I know, is that Bluey used to walk backwards and forwards to come loose from the head section and then he would position himself, very slowly, and then lift each leg up to become free from the part that was secured around his lower body!
Bluey really enjoyed the park and being away from the sound of cars, but he would eventually become bored and ask to come home. I miss him lying on his bed, looking content and wagging his tail after calling his name. There he would lay, until he heard the sound of his bowl being filled up! " Go back Bluey, you know that you don't get fed here!" He would then follow his bowl and knock all who stood in his way! He learnt so much during the six months here and it's such a pity that I never got to know him much more!
